Cory was back again today, but this time he was fishing with his daughters. Hailey had the morning and Skylar the afternoon, as he thought a full day for them would be too long. I decided to make it easier for everyone, by continuing the dropshot technique over rocky flats and it didn’t take long for Hailey to hook up. Multiple passes had them both landing fish and they even managed to put a few walleye in the box too! A quick switch to another area nearby had them catching more fish after the first spot went dry. This is where we remained until it was time to return for the switch! In the end, they managed to put 4 walleye in the livewell and plenty of smallmouth were caught & released too!

Skylar was the younger of the two girls but really eager to get out and fish. We headed to another place further away, hoping that the afternoon would be equally as good. I once again set them up with a dropshot rod and began the drift. I was marking plenty of fish but all they were catching were perch. Skylar did manage to bring in one good walleye that unfortunately was over the slot and had to be released. After several more drifts without any fish, I decided to relocate.

The conditions were practically perfect for most of the day so far but the fishing was much slower than I expected. I needed to find some active fish! Another move was in order and this one proved to be better as several more good fish came aboard. A couple of other walleye also made their way into the tank and the numbers were finally adding up. At least until the wind completely died!

The last 90 minutes of the day saw us fishing even slower than before, with very little movement. The waters were completely calm and we were vertically dropshotting now just to get bit. A bunch more fish were hooked into but not all of them were landed as several bass jumped off the hook. In the end, we finished strong with a few more walleye and bass and called it shortly after 4:00.

Both girls had a great time today with their father but I think Cory came out on top. He got to spend quality time with them, doing something he loves! All I know is that they will be swapping stories with each other tonight, while dining on the fresh fish from today. Great times with great people!!

This was the final day that Chris was to be with me and I wanted to get hm into some bigger fish. Yesterday saw a good number of bass & walleye, but nothing really worthy of a pic. Hopefully today would be a different story!

Lighter winds had us drifting slower than usual, over a rocky flat and several fish were landed and lost from here. It was slower than usual, so I didn’t waste too much time on this spot, before moving to another one further away. I wanted to see if I could find some larger walleye & bass and the run and gun approach was my best bet.

The fish were acting a bit lethargic this morning and although we saw plenty on the electronics, we were only able to get a couple of the bigger ones I wanted. Chris did manage to land two really good eyes that were finally worthy of pics! Several smaller walleye were also caught but the bass eluded us from this area.

The rest of the day was spent jumping around in search of better fish and despite fishing shallow, the bass were all on the smaller side. I even tried much deeper and introduced Chris to some of the big fish areas. I instructed him on how to vertically dropshot and unfortunately, I was the only one to get the bigger bass from here.

Chris had wanted to finish earlier today and after a few more spots with limited success, we called it a day. He had seen good fishing on each of the three days spent here and was ready to pack it in. It had been nice, just having one person in the boat and there was definitely plenty of room to spare. Chris had great weather as well, after experiencing high winds and plenty of rain before he arrived. I’ll be busy again this week without any breaks and hopefully fishing another species as well. I’m going to give the sturgeon a shot and with any luck, I’ll be getting into them real soon too!

Chris was in for 4 days and flying solo with me today. He was into fish on the first spot and we never looked back! Each place we hit, held fish and he definitely caught them good. Although mostly a dropshot bite, a few of the fish came on a jig too. From bass to walleye and even a big pike, he landed plenty of quality today. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Another day with double trips saw me on the water with Adam and his son, Miles in the morning. Mitchell & his son, Mathis were also with me in the afternoon and both families had a blast catching fish. They spent almost all the time with a dropshot rod and landed a good number of bass and walleye. Slow drifts over deeper rocky flats provided everyone with plenty of action throughout their trips. Mother nature was also kind to us today as light winds and dry skies made it quite enjoyable to fish!!

Mark & Dan joined me this morning for a half day of fishing. Despite the forecast calling for a big SE wind and rain all day, it was actually pleasant. I had an afternoon booking that cancelled though, giving me the rest of the day off. Never trust the weather!

We began in an area that had been holding plenty of fish and it didn’t take long to hook up. Both bass and walleye were caught from here and a couple of the eyes made it into the box. Multiple passes were made over various sections of this flat and many fish were landed. I hit another area nearby when the action slowed and they managed to catch several more fish there too.

Half days always go fast and after fishing the first spot again, for the last hour, it was time to head back. They had both managed to catch several good bass along with many smaller ones and had 4 walleye to go home with. I’m not sure exactly how many fish they landed but it was more than they were used to seeing. In the end, the weather was great and the fishing was too. Thanks Mother Nature!
