John was with his son in law Greg and grandson Mike today, in search of big fish. Flat calm conditions and overcast skies had me beginning with a troll. They managed to get into a bunch of walleye and pike with several eyes making it into the livewell. They would be eating well tonight! The sun finally made a brief appearance in the morning making the fish active, but only for a short period of time. Eventually it disappeared and we were back to covering water, to get bit again.

With plenty of fish caught throughout the morning in flat conditions, it was only a matter of time before the weather would change. It began to rain lightly as we trolled out of the productive area, to our next area and still managed to catch more fish. I finally reached the spot I was looking for and we switched gears completely.

The last hour was spent sturgeon fishing in heavy rain and each of them landed a fish. Once I completed the rotation, it was time to head back! Unfortunately, the winds had just increased out of the east and it was a long run. Add the heavy rains and low visibility and I was glad to have GPS and this Ranger!

Wet but safe, we arrived at the ramp and were all glad to be back. It had been an interesting day to say the least, with all the different weather. The fishing was great however and that’s all that counts! We may have been soaked but everyone had a good time catching all kinds of fish. Nice try Mother Nature, but we endured your wrath and had a great day, regardless!!

Matt was my guest today and primarily looking for bass. He wanted to refine a few techniques and we fished various places and covered plenty of water to get it done. Both deep and shallow areas were targeted and plenty of bass were caught. Even a few walleye fell victim to our offerings! Our last spot of the day not only held bass but one big old toothy critter as well. Matt finally landed his first musky and it was on a bass bait! You just never know where these things will show up. Overall, today was a great day for learning and an even better one for catching!!

Keisuke was here, all the way from Japan and looking to catch some different fish. He literally didn’t speak a word of English but that wasn’t a problem. The Google Translate App really helped with the communication, on both ends. I can’t believe how easy it is to use and just how good it actually works. It definitely made my job much easier today!

Keisuke started out with his own double header while trolling and landed both of them. One pike & one walleye shared the pics as he held the two of them up for the shot. We covered plenty of water and he managed to catch all kinds of pike & walleye. A few went in the box, but the majority were released as they were just too big to keep!

After trolling for most of the morning I decided to give him a changeup and switched over to smallmouth for a while. He couldn’t believe the power of these brown bass and not having caught one before, fell in love immediately!

I had wanted to get him into something big and finally switched over to the big dogs! He battled a huge sturgeon for about ten minutes and was done after landing it. This is when he requested an early departure. The fish had taken him out!

Keisuke probably never had any idea that today was going to be the best fishing day of his life. In the 5 or so hours we were out, he landed more big fish than he ever could have imagined. The icing on the cake however would have been the monster, that ended his day! He definitely finished on a high!!

Scott & Chris had another unbelievable day on the water today capturing enough fish for more grand slams. They both boated walleye, pike, bass and a few sturgeon. What started out with a troll for the eyes, switched to casting for bass and eventually spot locking for sturgeon. The weather even changed a few times and went from a NE wind and overcast skies to no wind and bright sunshine. Regardless, we got it done, in spades! Great fishing all around and they even left with several keeper sized walleye!

Rob, Tim & Garnit joined me today for another spectacular day of fishing! They all managed grand slams, capturing 4 different species of fish. The morning saw plenty of pike & walleye, trolling vast areas and some of them were quite big. They were able to put a limit of high-end keeper eyes in the boat as well as releasing many overs. The afternoon saw a mix of bass and a few sturgeon with each of them landing a giant. We finished off the day by dropshotting deeper water where they once again all landed smallmouth.

Today was a picture perfect one, with just enough wind from the SW to keep everyone cool on this scorcher day. The great fishing didn’t hurt either as everyone landed plenty of quality fish!!
