The fishing has been great lately, despite all the different weather patterns and wind directions. Today was no different as Dan & Dave found out! They experienced a cold front bite from deep water that was extraordinary. Fish of all sizes came aboard one after the other and some of them were real good ones. By drop shotting slowly they were able to pick at the negative fish along with a few aggressive ones.

Once the sun warmed the chilly morning air and water temps began to rise, I switched from the deep and headed shallow. Both Dan & Dave tossed an assortment of soft plastics and continued their bass catching. We eventually ended in an area that was loaded and they boated plenty more before we were done.

Today may have started out a little chilly but by the end it was downright hot! Flat calm conditions and bright sunshine warmed everything up, including the fish. Another great day of fishing was had by these two by adjusting techniques to the conditions!

Francis joined me today on what looked like the first decent one since the major cold front hit. Winds were still out of the NE but extremely light, for a change! They were even expected to switch to the SW during the day and this would be a welcomed treat!

We began dropshotting an area for both bass and walleye and I gave him a crash course on the technique. Although he had never done this before, he caught on quickly and managed to land a few fish from our first spot. It wasn’t until we changed locations that he started to do better and here he boated several good walleye and more smallies. I even showed him the casting part of the drop shot, making it easy for him to be able to use it on his own from shore!

I had wanted to show him all three variations of dropshotting so we switched to deeper water and the vertical presentation. It was this one that we remained on for the balance of the day and he caught plenty of good smallies. I know he managed his personal best, several times over!

In the end, both bass & walleye were landed and Francis was even able to bring a few fish home with him. He had never eaten walleye before but I knew he would love them! Overall, a great day of fishing!

I spent the day with Neil on the water, battling NE winds on the second day of a major cold front. To say it was a challenge would have been an understatement! We managed to catch plenty of fish but had to go deep in order to get the good ones. Both bass and walleye were landed but not many pics were taken! Big waves again because of the wind direction and I had to use the electric motor pointed downstream in order to get the right presentation! I can’t wait to get back to a normal wind again!

After a relaxing day off yesterday, I was back on the water again this morning. Randall had his son Jack and his niece & nephew from New Zealand. They wanted to catch some bass and possibly a sturgeon. I had brought all the gear for the big fish but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. I marked a few, but not the ones I usually catch and after about an hour of trying, pulled the plug completely. We were off for smallies!

Jack managed to get the first good fish and it was a beauty! The others all landed a few of their own but slightly on the smaller side. I hit many areas and each one produced fish, but not the ones I wanted. I jumped around plenty and kept going deeper until I finally hit some of the bigger ones. Conner & his sister Grace managed to catch a few larger ones but it was Conner that had the bigger fish. Jack on the other hand landed some of the largest of the day and took big fish as well. We had a few doubles and even one triple header that caused a little chaos netting.

Today was one of those scorcher days and I needed to put the top up to stay a bit cooler. Temps reached into the 90’s and the roof was welcomed!

We finished the day with a few drifts over a walleye area and Jack managed one small fish from there. Both he and his father Randall did catch more smallies though before we were done.

This was another great day but a little on the hot side. There was also a lot of boat traffic on the water with this being such a nice day. Plenty of cruisers returning home after their vacation causing waves from all directions. I was glad it was finally over! Regardless it was still a great day for fishing!

What do you day on your day off? Go fishing of course! Christiane and I headed out a bit later than usual but were fishing by 9:00 this morning. We had waited for the rain to pass and decided to hit the water for several hours of pleasure fishing. I was on good fish lately and wanted her to enjoy a day on the water, with me being so busy lately. It was going to be a great day!

Once we arrived and I saw the conditions, I knew we were going to crush them! Winds were blowing, as usual, but were a perfect 1 to 2 foot chop. Ironically it was also from the right direction for what I wanted to do! Add to that the complete overcast sky and the recipe for walleye was just about perfect. The fish didn’t stand a chance!

When I say it didn’t take long, I mean it really didn’t take long! Christiane made her first cast and was tight to a fish 5 seconds later. She definitely wasted no time getting on the board with a nice keeper. It went into the livewell as today was the day we were going to keep some fish to eat. Lately the clients were all taking fish home and it had been a while since I was able to.

Fish after fish came aboard throughout the morning and several were on the large size too. Some nice pics were taken before their release and the livewell was getting pretty full with a number of good keepers. We were even able to cull up to slightly larger ones several times over!

I decided towards the end of the day to head over for a few smallmouth bass for Christiane and left this area to give it a try. First drift locked her up and now she was battling a smallie. A second bass soon followed along with another walleye before we were done. This was the perfect ending to an absolutely perfect day!

It had been quite some time since Christiane had been in the boat fishing and I believe we were still trolling at that time too. Today she more than made up for the lapse of time by catching all kinds of fish! With practically nobody else on the water due to the weather, we had a relaxing 5 hours of unbelievable fishing. Now the fun was about to begin as I was going home to clean fish! A small price to pay for a few great meals of fresh walleye!
