Tough Windy Conditions

Another day of hateful NE winds and today they were bigger than usual! My key areas were not even fishable and I had to bring Richard to alternate spots instead. He still managed to catch plenty of bass but the average size was smaller than I have been used to seeing lately. At one point we even went shallow and managed to get into some better fish there too. Overall a tough day but still quite productive!

Another Deep Water Day

Shamlan invited 3 of his friends fishing this afternoon making it a full boat! I was faced with similar conditions like yesterday, but with bigger NE winds. Add to that the cold front that arrived overnight and I knew exactly what I had to do. We were going deep once again!

We made the best of the half day trip by making multiple deep drifts, dropshotting over the abyss. It was a little difficult at first as a couple of them hadn’t fished before but eventually they caught on and everybody landed bass. Some of them were real quality once again and made for some great pics too!

It looks like the conditions won’t improve anytime soon and I will be back out again tomorrow in more hateful NE winds. Oh yeah, a cold front overnight will be adding to the misery as well making it another deep water day!

A Couple of Couples

A morning trip with two couples proved to be a successful bass fishing outing for all! Darren, Phil, Wendy & Lori all managed to catch decent smallies. Some of them were even quality! The SE winds made it a little tough to get a proper presentation in deep water, but I somehow made it work. Four rods in is always a challenge when I can’t drift properly! Eventually the winds died completely making it a scorcher towards the end of the morning. Sure glad we only had a half day scheduled!

Big Deep Bite

Richard was back today with Liam but this time Karen didn’t join them. Instead her husband Dave was along for the ride, so to speak! The three of them had a great time catching smallies, from deep water. We spent the better part of the day dropshotting the depths and plenty of bass were landed. Not all of them were big but there was definitely some quality in the mix. They had multiple doubles and even a triple header that made for a great pic! All in all a pretty great day!

Big Bite Bass

Scott was in town with his daughter and wanted something to do while she visited her friends. Why not head out fishing! We were going to have a great day as the temps had dropped a bit and it wasn’t going to be a scorcher! Bass were on the feed and I hoped to get him into some bigguns!

Although we spent the first couple of hours in search of sturgeon, it didn’t happen. Some nibbles were had but not from the right species, so we called it on the dinosaurs for the day!

I had him trying something he hadn’t done before and he caught on quickly. We were dropshotting deeper water and he managed to boat several good smallies. We covered plenty of water in search of the larger bass and were rewarded several times. Once I felt that the water had been covered effectively, I decided to bring him shallower in hopes of more big smallies.

We fished a couple of different areas with soft plastics and he nailed more big bass. Some of them were sight fished and he really enjoyed that! He was able to convince a few fish into eating boatside by changing the cadence of the bait. This also gave him confidence in using a bait that he had never used before!
