Meet Your Fishing Guide – Mark Currie
MARK CURRIE has been recognized as one of Quebec’s top leading tournament fishermen for many years, accumulating over thirty finishes in the top three and plenty more in the top ten. With a prestigious “Triple Crown”, consisting of Angler of the Year, Team of the Year, and the Classic Champion, his credentials speak for themselves. In his prime tournament years, Team of the Year and Angler of the Year awards were accomplished numerous times, also adding to this list. In 2010 he returned to competition once again and added yet another high placing in the “Berkley B1” tournament. After leading the field day one, he ended with an impressive second place finish just shy of another win.
He has appeared in the “In-Fisherman” magazine twice as the guide for trophy smallmouth in Quebec and Ontario. He is sponsored by Pure Fishing, well known for companies such as Berkley, Fenwick, and Abu Garcia along with many others. As well he has contributed by writing articles on both smallmouth and largemouth bass for local papers and other websites.
Many years of tournament fishing has left him with one very important asset, “Versatility”. Along with bass, he is also a multi species fisherman. Trout & salmon begin his season in April, followed by walleye & northern pike in May. With bass following in June, this keeps him on open water for almost 9 months of the year. The remaining 3 months find him combining a mix of open water steelhead and hard water ice fishing, primarily for walleye & perch.
With education being the main goal he strives for, a day on the water with him will prove to be a memorable learning experience. By understanding behavioral patterns, you will learn how to catch trophy fish under various conditions. The tournament techniques that he has developed and refined over the years will be taught to you, as you battle some of the toughest swimming freshwater fish.
